Encyclopedia

Quick question for you all. What would be a good (big) encyclopedia for me to download onto my laptop to use when I don't have Internet access?

For want of a more credible choice, you can get wikipedia working offline...

We all have our opinions on wikipedia, so I'll not suggest it's the best out there, but it is big.

Encarta used to be the best by far. im sure you can but it on a CD or download, and they update it every year. definately check it out.

ok, after checking it seems that encarta is very big and has a good name, but im not sure it would be the best for some of the science or biology information that you would probably be looking up. Still worth a try though i reckon.
P.S The snow has hit essex. Dunno how Chelmsford is fairing but Harold Hill is covered! All the little chav bags are out in force, such easy targets from a loft velux window :)

Spencer, the snow is here and I have no intention of stepping outside. Encarta is defunct now - not being sold any more.

It looks like Britannica still has a disc based version of their encyclopedia. The reviews are mixed but generally more favorable on the US version of Amazon than the UK.

wikitaxi seems to be a popular reader for wikipedia. It is listed in the link Richard gave and the actual app is here.

Collin, yes, I think I'll be getting a copy of that. It's on my Christmas present list.

Thanks eriko, I'll take another look at that.
